The story
The Pakistan & East Africa Connecting Europe (PEACE) Cable is a 15,000-kilometer private subsea cable system engineered to provide the shortest geodetic transit route between China/Pakistan and Europe. Originating in Gwadar and Karachi, the network crosses the Arabian Sea to Djibouti and Mombasa, before traversing Egypt overland to terminate in Marseille, France. Financed by Chinese communications equipment vendor Hengtong Optic-Electric and operated as an open-access carrier-neutral system, PEACE delivers up to 96 Tbps across its Mediterranean and Indian Ocean segments.
Notable
- Provides an ultra-short overland and subsea routing path from Pakistan and Western China directly to Western Europe.
- Spans over 15,000 kilometers with key landings in Karachi, Gwadar, Djibouti, Mombasa, and Marseille.
- Designed for up to 96 Tbps total throughput using 200G wavelength transmission technology.
- Functions as an open-access, carrier-neutral system independent of traditional consortium voting structures.
