The story
Rising above the pine forests 60 kilometers north of Helsinki in Mäntsälä stands a distinctive aerodynamic structure resembling a jet engine intake. Built in 2014 by Yandex and reorganized in 2024 as the European AI infrastructure firm Nebius, the data centre was an early pioneer of circular energy. The facility captures heated server air and passes it through industrial heat exchangers to warm water for Mäntsälä's municipal district heating network, cutting the town's natural gas consumption by 75%. In 2024 Nebius expanded the site with thousands of NVIDIA H100s for AI cloud clients.
