Verne Global Keflavík Campus

The story

On a former NATO base in the Reykjanes peninsula of Iceland, Verne Global opened its Keflavík campus in 2012 to prove high-performance computing could be zero-carbon. Iceland's power grid draws entirely from geothermal steam and glacial runoff hydro, offering stable baseload power at predictable multi-year tariffs. Coupled with cold subarctic air that provides 100% free-air cooling 365 days a year without mechanical chillers, Verne became a preferred destination for European automotive CFD crash simulations, genomics research, and financial modeling.

Notable

• Located on a 45-acre former NATO naval air station site near Keflavík International Airport.
• Powered 100% by Iceland's dual-redundant baseload geothermal and hydroelectric renewable national grid.
• Uses 100% ambient free-air cooling year-round, eliminating mechanical compressors and chillers entirely.
• Directly connected to Europe and North America via the FARICE, DANICE, and Iris subsea fiber systems.
