Microsoft Cloud Region Mexico Central
First hyperscale cloud region established in Spanish-speaking Latin America, launched in 2024
The story
In May 2024, Microsoft made history by inaugurating 'Mexico Central' in the state of Querétaro, the first hyperscale cloud region established by a global tech titan in Spanish-speaking Latin America. Sited in the high-altitude Bajío region, Querétaro was chosen for its low seismic risk, robust electrical infrastructure, and direct fiber connectivity to Mexico City. The multi-zone deployment allows Mexican banks, government ministries, and enterprises to store data natively within Mexico.
Notable
- First enterprise hyperscale cloud region opened by a major cloud provider in Spanish-speaking Latin America.
- Features three physically separated Availability Zones across the state of Querétaro.
- Provides ultra-low latency in-country data residency for Mexican banks, healthcare, and public sector.
- Engineered with seismic isolation and water-efficient cooling suited for the semi-arid Bajío plateau.
Expansions
- 2024: Official commercial launch of Mexico Central cloud region with three availability zones
- 2025: Planned integration of enterprise AI accelerators supporting Mexican national digital agenda
