The story
Located in Falun, Sweden, EcoDataCenter 1 was built with a pioneering architectural ethos: replacing embodied carbon-heavy concrete and steel with locally-harvested Scandinavian cross-laminated timber (CLT). Beyond its wooden walls, the facility operates in complete circular industrial harmony with municipal utility Falu Energi & Vatten. In winter, hot water from server racks warms local homes; in summer, residual heat dries sawdust at an adjoining wood pellet production factory.
