Raxio Data Centre Uganda (UGA1)
Uganda's first Tier III carrier-neutral data center, anchoring East Africa's digital corridor
The story
Commissioned in 2021 inside the Kampala Industrial and Business Park at Namanve, Raxio UGA1 represented a turning point for East African digital sovereignty. Prior to Raxio, Ugandan enterprises and government agencies routinely hosted critical data in Europe or South Africa. UGA1 introduced Tier III certified colocation powered by clean hydroelectricity from Nile dams, housing the Uganda Internet Exchange Point (UIXP) and serving as a cross-border digital gateway to DR Congo and Rwanda.
Notable
- Uganda's first privately-owned, carrier-neutral Tier III certified data center.
- Located in the Kampala Industrial and Business Park in Namanve, central Uganda.
- Powered primarily by clean hydroelectric power generated along the Victoria Nile River.
- Houses the Uganda Internet Exchange Point (UIXP), keeping local Ugandan internet traffic in-country.
Expansions
- 2022: Expansion to 400 rack spaces with direct interconnects to Uganda Internet Exchange (UIXP)
- 2024: Integration into pan-African cross-border terrestrial fiber network to Kenya and DRC
