What DCIM costs in 2026: price ranges by room size

Guide + calculator + data · 5 questions answered · updated 2026-10-15

Published DCIM list prices in October 2026 fall into four bands: free tools capped at about 100 devices or 4 cabinets; cloud DCIM at about $3 per asset per year with a $1,500 yearly minimum; mid-market DCIM at $234–333 per rack per year; and enterprise suites sold by quote, reported at $800–2,500 per rack per year. For a 20-rack room that is about $1,500 to $6,700 a year in licenses, before services, sensors and staff time.

1. The four price bands

List prices published on vendor pricing pages, checked in October 2026. This site does not name DCIM vendors; the bands are what matters for a budget.

BandPricing unitPublished priceWhat you usually getLimits
Freenone$0Rack elevations, inventory, sometimes a 3D roomAbout 100 devices (hosted free tier) or 4 cabinets (lab edition); open-source needs your own server and admin

Cloud DCIMper assetabout $3 per asset per year, $1,500 yearly minimum (500 assets); cabling add-on about $2 per assetInventory, power and environmental monitoring, browser 3DThe minimum dominates below about 30 racks
Mid-market DCIMper rack (cabinet)$234 per rack per year core; $333 with power monitoring; power monitoring alone about $66 per node per yearAsset and capacity management, power chain, change workflowsYearly up front; installation effort
Enterprise suitesquotereported at $800–2,500 per rack per year; published enterprise cloud plans reach $120,000 per year for 2,000 devicesEverything above, multi-site, integrations, servicesSales cycle, implementation project

Monitoring suites priced per monitored device add about $29–60 per node per year on top. Browser-based airflow simulation add-ons list at roughly $5,000–19,000 per year.

2. What that means for your room

Yearly license cost from the published prices, at 15 devices per rack (16 assets per rack including the rack itself):

RacksCloud DCIM, per assetMid-market, per rackEnterprise (reported)DC Sim Monitor
10$1,500 (minimum)$2,340 – 3,330$8,000 – 25,000$600
20$1,500 (minimum)$4,680 – 6,660$16,000 – 50,000$1,200
50$2,400$11,700 – 16,650$40,000 – 125,000$3,000
100$4,800$23,400 – 33,300$80,000 – 250,000$6,000

Use the calculator above with your own rack count and density. Per-asset pricing favours sparse racks; per-rack pricing favours dense ones, which is why a GPU row with few large devices per rack looks cheap per asset and expensive per rack.

3. What the list price leaves out

  • Implementation and data entry. The license is rarely the largest cost in year one; getting racks, devices and the power chain into the tool is. A spreadsheet that already holds rack, U, model and cords cuts this the most.
  • Sensors and hardware for power and environmental monitoring, if the tool does not read the monitoring you already run.
  • Integrations with the monitoring, ticketing and CMDB you have.
  • Staff time to keep the data current. A DCIM nobody updates is worth less every month.
  • Simulation. Most DCIM tools report the present. A failure what-if or a thermal projection is either an add-on, a separate engineering tool or not available.

4. How to compare quotes

  1. Convert every quote to cost per rack per year at your size, including minimums and add-ons.
  2. Ask which unit is counted (asset, device, rack, node, object, IP address) and what happens when you add a GPU row.
  3. Ask what is included: power chain, cabling, monitoring, 3D, what-if.
  4. Ask how data gets in: spreadsheet import, API, connectors to your monitoring.
  5. Price year three, not year one: renewals, growth and the admin who keeps it current.

5. Where DC Sim fits

DC Sim is not a DCIM and does not replace one. It is the simulator on top: one Excel file, or your Zabbix or NetBox data, becomes a 3D twin you can fail. Design is one-time per project ($490 up to 20 racks, $1,490 up to 100, $3,900 above); Monitor is $5 per rack per month with a $49 minimum; integrators and MSPs earn a 30 % margin as partners. See pricing.

6. Method and sources

List prices were read from the vendors’ public pricing pages in October 2026 and converted to US dollars per year; vendors are not named on this page. The same prices with vendor names, sources and dates are in DC Sim vs enterprise DCIM pricing. Figures marked “reported” are not published list prices: the enterprise per-rack band is from Datacentres.com research (August 2026), and enterprise deals are usually quoted per project. Prices change; check the current list price before you budget. The tables are free to reuse under CC BY 4.0 with a link to this page.

What happens in this clip
  1. Demo hall: 13 racks, fed from feed A and feed B, in the Power layer with the room lights off.
  2. Lose feed A at peak: the one-line power diagram shows the chain from utility and generator through the ATS, UPS-A and UPS-B, the panels and every rack PDU.
  3. Fail UPS-A. Banner: 2 devices lose power, 90 run on one feed, overloaded: PDU-R05-B at 113.9 %.
  4. Single-corded devices go dark and the other PDU overloads; the 3D room shows the racks on one feed in amber.
  5. The scenario timeline lists which services stop and which racks survive on one feed.

Questions people ask
How much does DCIM cost per rack?

Published list prices in October 2026 run from about $102 per rack per year for cabling documentation, through $234–333 per rack per year for mid-market DCIM, to $800–2,500 per rack per year reported for enterprise suites, which are sold by quote.

Is there free DCIM software?

Yes, with limits: hosted free tiers stop at around 100 devices, free lab editions at about 4 cabinets, and open-source tools are free to run but need a server and an administrator.

Why are DCIM prices so hard to compare?

Vendors charge per asset, per rack, per monitored node or per object, with yearly minimums and add-ons for cabling or power monitoring. The same 20-rack room can be $1,500 or $6,700 a year depending on the unit, so convert everything to cost per rack per year at your size.

What does a 20-rack server room pay for DCIM?

About $1,500 a year on a per-asset cloud plan (the minimum applies), $4,680–6,660 on a per-rack mid-market plan, and $16,000 or more for an enterprise suite, before implementation and services.

Is DC Sim a DCIM?

No. DC Sim is a data center simulator that sits on top of DCIM and monitoring: one Excel file becomes a 3D twin you can fail. Monitor is $5 per rack per month with a $49 minimum; Design is one-time per project from $490.
