An EcoStruxure IT alternative for what-if and 3D
Last checked against the vendors' public pages · sources below
EcoStruxure IT Expert is Schneider Electric's cloud monitoring for power and cooling devices, priced per monitored node: the MSRP page lists $60 per node per year at the 25-node tier, falling to $43.50 at higher volumes, billed annually. DC Sim answers a different question: it turns an Excel file, NetBox or Zabbix into a 3D twin of the room and lets you fail any UPS, feed, cooling unit, switch or manifold to see what goes dark, at $5 per rack per month or one-time per design project.
At a glance
| EcoStruxure IT Expert (as listed on the MSRP page) | DC Sim | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Cloud remote monitoring for power and cooling devices | Browser-based data center simulator and 3D twin |
| Price | $43.50–60 per monitored node per year (MSRP, annual) | Monitor $5 per rack per month ($49 minimum); Design $490–3,900 one-time per project |
| Unit | Monitored node (a UPS, a PDU, a cooling unit) | Rack |
| Device monitoring and alarms | Its core | Reads Zabbix directly and any tool’s readings export; no own sensors |
| Room model in 3D | Not on the MSRP page | 3D twin with Floor, Air, Water, Fire, Power, Cabling, Network, Device and Token layers |
| Failure what-if across power, cooling and network | Not on the MSRP page | Fail any node; dark, one-feed and overloaded lists; estimated minutes to 27, 32, 35 °C |
| Design before the room exists | Not on the MSRP page | Design mode with U, weight, breaker and cooling checks |
| Tokens per kWh | Not on the MSRP page | Token layer per server and rack |
Cost at list price
| Room | EcoStruxure IT Expert | DC Sim Monitor |
|---|---|---|
| 10 racks: 20 rack PDUs + 2 UPSs + 3 cooling units (25 nodes at $60) | $1,500 | $600 |
| 20 racks: 40 rack PDUs (40 nodes at $60) | $2,400 | $1,200 |
| 50 racks: 100 rack PDUs (100 nodes at $50.50) | $5,050 | $3,000 |
Node counts are assumptions for illustration: two networked rack PDUs per rack, plus the facility devices you choose to monitor.
When EcoStruxure IT is the better fit
- You want vendor-supported monitoring and alarms for your power and cooling devices, with the device count as the cost driver.
- Most of your infrastructure is from the same vendor family and you want one monitoring service for it.
When DC Sim is the better fit
- You want to see the room and fail things before they fail: a UPS at peak, one feed, a cooling unit, a leak, a switch.
- You are planning a room or a row and want the checks before hardware is ordered.
- You want tokens per kWh for an AI room on the same model as power and cooling.
Using both
Monitoring tells you what is happening; the twin tells you what would happen. Keep the monitoring, export its readings into the template’s Readings sheet, and DC Sim’s loads and temperatures come from your room instead of typical values.

How much does EcoStruxure IT Expert cost?
Schneider Electric's MSRP page lists $60 per node per year at the 25-node tier, $54 at 50–75 nodes, $50.50 at 100 nodes, $46.50 at 150–250 nodes and $43.50 at 350 nodes, billed annually; monthly billing costs more (checked 15 October 2026).
Is DC Sim a monitoring tool?
No. DC Sim has no sensors or device agents of its own. It reads monitoring you already run (Zabbix directly, any other tool through the Readings sheet) and places the values on a 3D model you can fail.
Which costs less for 20 racks?
At list price, 40 monitored nodes (two rack PDUs per rack) on EcoStruxure IT Expert is about $2,400 a year; DC Sim Monitor for 20 racks is $1,200 a year. They do different jobs, and many rooms would use both.
Can DC Sim show EcoStruxure IT data?
Yes, through exports: device readings fit the Readings sheet of the template. There is no direct EcoStruxure IT connector.
